For this puppet you need an egg carton and a glove. A rubber glove would be fine. A knit glove would work too. They can be easily painted a skin colour. This will form the figure of Joseph.
TO MAKE THE WELL:
1. Cut out a cup from the egg carton. Cut out a strip from the egg carton 1/2″ (.75 cm) wide, long enough to go around the top section of the egg cup. Glue in place. This forms the rim of the well. Paint the egg cup grey.
2. Add black felt-pen markings to make it look like a well. Cut a hole in the bottom of the cup, just big enough to insert a gloved finger. You don’t want it to be too loose—then the egg carton will fall down! You want a snug fit.
TO MAKE JOSEPH:
1. Cut the finger from the glove. Paint it a skin colour. Add yarn hair and facial features. This will be Joseph!
2. Place the figure on your finger. Place the egg carton “well” over the figure of Joseph as shown in the photo. The narrow part of the egg carton is the bottom of the well. Joseph can now move up and down in the well!
