STYROFOAM HEAD STICK PUPPET
A no-sew, no-paint stick puppet that has bendable arms! The pleats in the robe are made with a stapler. This is a very quick toy to make.
Insert a craft stick into a 1” (2.5 cm) Styrofoam ball.
Take a scrap of nylon stocking (panti-hose) double-thickness and stretch it tightly around the ball. Tie it securely at the “neck”. Trim off the excess fabric.
To make the robe cut a length of fabric 8” (20 cm) x 3.5” (9 cm) long. Fleece is great because it doesn’t require any hems.
For the sleeves cut fabric 5.5” (14 cm ) x 3” (7.5 cm).
Gather the robe by stapling “pleats” along the top length of the fabric. Glue the robe to the neck of the figure and glue the back edges of the robe together, overlapping slightly.
To form the arms, fold the fabric in half lengthwise and mark a line along the centre on the wrong side of the fabric. Place a strip of glue along this line. Place a pipe cleaner on top of this strip of glue.
Fold the sleeve lengthwise and glue the edges together.
Make a tiny pair of felt hands and glue to the inside of the sleeves. Glue the sleeves to the centre-back part of the robe.
Add yarn hair and facial features (with felt pen).
