JONAH AND THE WHALE: finger puppet

THIS IS A VERY EASY-TO-MAKE PUPPET!

The entire puppet can be glued except for the gathering of the neckline which must be sewed.

The puppet’s head is made from the fingertip of a glove which is stuffed with polyester stuffing. Follow the photo instructions to make the puppet.

TO MAKE THE FELT MOTIF: cut 2 layers of felt from the desired pattern. Glue the edges together after inserting a small amount of polyester stuffing. Add details with felt or felt pen. The motif is attached to the glove by means of Velcro.

TO MAKE THE HEAD SHAWL: Cut felt or fleece 7″(18cm) x 2″(5cm). Arrange the shawl on the puppet’s head according to the photo. Secure with a piece of a pipc cleaner around the crown of the head.

TO MAKE THE ROBE: Cut out fabric 5.5″(14cm) x 3″(7.5cm) for the SLEEVE and 8″(20cm) x 4.5″(11cm) for the ROBE. All the hems can be glued or sewn. If you don’t sew glue works fine! As you can see from the photo, there is only one long sleeve and it is glued (or sewn)to the back of the robe.

YOU BEGIN BY CUTTING OFF THE FINGERTIP OF THE GLOVE! This will form the head of the puppet.

A PIPECLEANER, GLUED ALONG THE MIDDLE OF THE SLEEVE, makes the arm bendable!

The arms can be glued to the back of the robe instead of sewn. Don’t forget to add tiny felt hands! The seam of the robe can also be glued. The entire arm can be glued as shown in the photograph. The child first puts on a glove and then inserts the puppet onto the glove. The cardboard tube serves as a finger holder. It is also the body of the puppet! Yarn can be used to form the hair or the beard of the puppet.
