 MOSES IN FELT BASKET

Here is a super-easy and fun way to make a Moses basket. The result is a sturdy, rigid Moses basket! This craft can also be used to form a Baby Jesus for a Nativity scene.

  1. Form an egg-shaped piece of play-dough the size you want the basket to be. This will be the mould for the basket.
  2. Cover it with plastic wrap.
  3. Cut out a square of beige felt to cover the egg shape.
  4. Wet it thoroughly and squeeze out the excess moisture. Drape it over the egg shape and secure it at the base with an elastic band.
  5. Brush on STIFFY (a fabric stiffener) or you can use a mixture of three-quarters white glue and one quarter water. Wipe off any excess. Let it dry overnight.
  6. Remove the elastic band and turn the “basket” over, right side up. It is now firm and rigid!
  7. Cut the edges of the felt shape (fringe it if you like) to form the basket
  1. TO MAKE THE BABY MOSES: As a head you can use a peanut, a wooden bead or spoon; wrap it in a “blanket”. Draw eyes with magic marker. For the head you can also use the fingertip of a beige glove which is stuffed with fiberfill and tied at the “neck.” If you don’t have a beige glove you can paint one.
